The $110.86 million project is primarily funded by a conditional award of $80 million from the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) with the County of Santa Barbara covering the remaining costs.
In July 2016, the County of Santa Barbara awarded S.J. Amoroso Construction a contract for $77.7 million and Spiess Construction a contract for $2.9 million to construct the Northern Branch Jail.
The project consists of the construction of a 134,000 SF, 376-bed jail facility including support areas and utility infrastructure.
